1. how did you find "verbotene liebe"? (a thousand google/yahoo searches)
2. when did you start watching it? (Sept/Oct 2006)
3. do you speak any german? (Where is the toilet? Please. Thank you, etc)
4. do you understand any german? (Ein bischen)
5. if you speak / understand only little german, do you never have problems with understanding the context? (Gott, nein! I understand 30%-70% any given episode. The soap is easier than an interview with rambling Deutsch)
6. does VL help you to improve you german language skills? (Absolut! If only they had offered this in School. SIGN ME UP! I would have tossed aside the French for Deutsch anyday.)

Oops. I misunderstood the English. Or as they say in Atlanta, "My Bad."

5. if you speak / understand only little german, do you never have problems with understanding the context? (Gott, nein! I understand 30%-70% any given episode. The soap is easier than an interview with rambling Deutsch)

I thought the question was... do I "ever" rather than do I "never..."

I do have problems with comprehension, but renville68, CarlaFreak and others (via YT) help out along with my own efforts.

1. In my redundant Youtube searches for trailers for Shamim Sarif's two new films "I Can't Think Straight" and "The World Unseen," I stumbled across a veritable goldmine of paired women's names such as Nikki & Helen, Nikki & Nora, Pepa & Silvia, Carla & Hanna, etc. Upon opening these precious baubles I found myself in lesbian wonderland. Hence Claudia Hiersche in all of her draw-dropping "ich bin straight" lesbian portraying glory!

BTW, am I supposed to be brief? Oops!

2. 2009. It could have been late 2008 and would have made a nice Christmas present, but as you shall see, I have a poor memory.

3. I studied German in College over 25 years ago. [pause] I have linguistic amnesia.

4. I understand that I'm listening to German.

5. I understand the extreme context, ie., "I'm shot, stabbed, punched, slapped! Ouch! Kuss-kuss. Come back here! Stop!" Otherwise, ich bin loooost.

6. Honey, I'm catching-up on my German so fast, I'm thinking of writing a German primer! However, it will only have words in it like, "Carla, ich liebe dich. Hanna, was ist los? Susanne, nicht Lars?"

BTW, am I supposed to be brief?
Are you going to make me do it over, sparely?

18.03.2009, 07:32

1. Someone blogged about it on this site: http://www.velvetparkmedia.com/
2. End 2008.
3. I did german 'O' level (GCSE), but it's all pretty rusty now.
4. Still pick up bits, as long as it's not too fast.
5. There's a lot on the videos that I don't understand, thank heaven for the videos with english subtitles.
6. Definitely helping improve my german. Yay. :zwinker:

2. when did you start watching it? Late 2007, I think
3. do you speak any german? Afraid not
4. do you understand any german? Picked up a smattering of words when struggling thru Carla/Hanna and Carla/Susanne episodes with no subtitles - this was before I discovered CarlaFreak :D
5. if you speak / understand only little german, do you never have problems with understanding the context? Not really, its a soap after all - have to give lot of room for crazy plots!
6. does VL help you to improve you german language skills? Yes, in small ways it has.
