Also, I think, because the writers wanted to focus more on Carla's eventual departure from her family, so they needed more screen time between Carla and the members of her family? And - they've been busy introducing new characters so that when Carla leaves, the replacements would be seamless. Let's not forget that Carla is a prominent character of the show.
I think now would be the best time to highlight the Starla relationship 'coz Carla's already made up her mind that she'd let go of the company, the castle, her family, everything, in order to be with Stella.
I don't know. We don't have many episodes left with Starla. But we'll see, eh?

bette1985 hat geschrieben:I feel that the writers r trying to gradually "phase" out the Carla character & give more screentime to other characters interacting with the new ones.
bette1985 hat geschrieben:So I think there will not be more scenes of Starla, especially not intimate scenes. But I also feel that the writers should give Claudia a more memorable exit & not just "phase" her out like any other character, since like u said, Ccogz, Carla is a prominent character.
bette1985 hat geschrieben:I'm also wondering if there is gonna be another resident lesbian in this show. I mean, the lesbian storyline served them well for so long. Wouldnt they wanna continue this with new characters? Maybe we will see another couple in the near future? Wishful thinking?

I know, it's unfortunate when the chemistry between CH & AW is very good, but I guess the writers made the decision for the greater good. I'm sure CH was on board with it. That's why, I think, AW was hired solely as a recurring guest star instead of a permanent co-star, to provide a relationship story angle for Carla, with the knowledge that CH would leave the show. So, to AW, there's always been a deadline for her to exit, when she took the job. But of 'coz things can always change depending on the rapport between AW and CH and I guess that it's been good. Hence, they both have agreed to be returning guests on VL for special episodes. Now, that's my take on it. I may be talking out of my arse, who knows, right?![]()
ccogz hat geschrieben:
I agree but then, I also have reservations about making a "memorable exit" for Carla in terms of her relationship - I think that's what you meant about being "memorable," right? If they make it into something so profound and memorable that the fans would never be able to let go of Carla when CH leaves, it'd be a ruckus. And I think VL has been pretty steady in maintaining a neutral, normal, balanced treatment on its prominent characters. Remember LHDP? The fans got angry, crazy, unreasonable... that's the last thing I'd want to hear about VL or CH having to defend themselves or make a big story out of CH's departure or worse, highlight her sexuality!!! God knows we've had enough of the mass media pigeon-hole-ing lesbianism on TV! I kind of appreciate the fact that VL has always maintained its low-key ways, you know what I mean? I like that! No fuss. And I think Carla finally letting go everything about her life - her family, her dad's legacy, her childhood home - in order to start a new life with the person who's come to be the most important figure in her life, finally putting her priorities to what truly makes her happy in her life, and not what her family expects of her, anymore - is kind of profound and memorable, don't you think?
ccogz hat geschrieben:
I've been wondering about that too. Now, do you think any one of those new characters introduced to the show recently could be one? Or she's not appeared yet? You're right. I think it'd be a shame if they drop it after having at least 1 resident lesbian on the show even before the groundbreaking Carla character!
Anyone living in Germany or has inside info/rumours got any idea about this?

bette1985 hat geschrieben:No,no. I dun mean memorable as in terms of her relationship. Wat I meant is to provide a proper closure for her exit, ie. where her family & her responsibilities in the family & business is concerned, her final well-thought-of decision to start a family with Stella & Sophia; basically a responsible act on her part & not just to run away from her fight with Ansgar. U know wat I mean? Not like the way Leonard "ran" away to be with Sarah. I dun blame him but I find that kinda irresponsible.
Am I talking out of my arse now?

Ansgar facetiously asks Maria to explain just how by giving Carla the top job at the Shanghai bank would benefit him. Maria tries to explain all the benefits including the fact that Carla would leave Düsseldorf altogether with Stella but Ansgar believes that if Carla is given the reins to the bank, that’d give her the advantage to inch back into the Holding more easily. Then Maria finally admits that she’s already promised Carla the job and Ansgar nearly flips out from anger. Ansgar tells Maria that there is absolutely no way he’d agree with it. Maria pleads for Ansgar’s approval ‘coz she really doesn’t know how to tell Carla that she can’t get her the job after giving reassurances already. But Ansgar does not want to hear any of it and doesn’t care what Carla’s reaction is going to be when Maria tells her the bad news ‘coz he as the boss will never agree to Maria’s unilateral decision to give up the Shanghai bank to Carla.

Stella’s on the phone in her office seemingly relieved about something when Carla walks in, papers in hand. Stella sees Carla and while still on the phone, whispers to Carla that it’s about Gregor and that he’s out of coma. Both of them express their absolute relief.
© ARD Grundy UFA
When Stella hangs up, Carla gives her a warm loving hug to celebrate the good news about Gregor’s health. Then she enthusiastically shows Stella a few profiles of select flats that she’s checked out in Shanghai and they both are excited about the prospect of their impending move.

As they’re both deeply busy picturing themselves in their ideal flat in Shanghai, Maria walks in, visibly nervous and guilt-ridden. Carla thanks Maria for making good of her promise to give her the top job at the bank in Shanghai.
© ARD Grundy UFA
Maria is forced to accept the gratitude ‘coz she just can’t seem to say anything to the contrary especially when she see’s just how happy Carla is for once where Maria’s involvement about anything is concerned. She just can’t bear to destroy that now. So she keeps mum about the truth and pretends to be excited for the lovebirds when she’s given one of the flat profiles to look at.

Carla is so thrilled that she pictures herself heading the Lahnstein Southeast Asia Bank while she and Stella have a lovely life in Shanghai. Carla feels absolutely in Cloud 9 as she pulls Stella into an intimate and exhilarating embrace. Maria leaves them as she can’t bear to see the prospect of her having to break their hearts anymore. (How could she break the horrible news to the lovebirds now?!) Awww…. That is indeed an irresistibly exciting prospect! (If only Carla knew of the truth!!!)
© ARD Grundy UFA
Maria is in deep doo-doo. She looks at the portrait of Francesca desperately praying for her sister to save her from herself now that she’s really out of ideas. On one hand, she can’t defy Ansgar but on the other hand, she can’t face Carla with the truth. She breaks down into uncontrollable sobs and doesn’t hear Stella walk in at all. Stella is surprised to see Maria crying and stops to ask what is going on. At first, Maria denies anything wrong but as Stella turns to leave, Maria calls her back. She then reveals that her promise to Carla about heading the Lahnstein Southeast Bank in Shanghai is not going through after all and she doesn’t know how to break it to Carla. Stella is shocked and tells Maria that Carla will never leave with her to Shanghai if she doesn’t get the job! (Now, it’s obvious that Stella’s only worry is her life with Carla together instead of long distance while Maria is only worried about breaking her promise to Carla)
© ARD Grundy UFA
Maria then reveals to Stella that the reason for her to arrange for Carla to head the bank in Shanghai is so that she would leave Düsseldorf for the good of the family since that would stop Carla and Ansgar from constantly fighting over the Holding. Stella is furious to hear Maria’s revelation and looks like she’s going to tell Carla. Maria quickly pleads for Stella’s silence at least for now ‘coz she will come up with something to rectify this mess and makes sure that Stella could be with Carla together ‘coz she knows that’s what Stella has always wanted – just to be with Carla, somewhere far away from the clutches of Ansgar. Stella is visibly uncomfortable about keeping this from Carla ‘coz she doesn’t want to keep any secret from the person that she’s in love with and she expresses that clearly to Maria. Maria understands but pleads for Stella to just give her some time to resolve the matter with Ansgar. Stella reluctantly agrees.

Later that night, Maria hassles Ansgar again in his quarters, trying to persuade him to agree with her plan. But Ansgar does not budge at all. In the end, Maria warns that the only thing she would have to do is to reveal her true identity to Carla unless Ansgar changes his mind and agrees to give Carla the Shanghai position. Ansgar clearly does not believe that Maria would really go through with it but when Maria gives him the ”Just watch me” look before she leaves, Ansgar looks concerned.

The next morning at the breakfast table, Ansgar continues with his bullying of Carla with his megalomaniac remarks as Elisabeth, who’s also having breakfast with them listens with contempt. Finally, Carla just can’t sit through anymore and is about to leave with Elisabeth when Maria walks in.
© ARD Grundy UFA
Maria then tells everyone that she is going to make a secret announcement. Carla and Elisabeth are all ears now.
© ARD Grundy UFA
Maria stands there waiting for Ansgar to stop her. There’s an awkward silence and Carla is beginning to twiddle her thumbs in amusement, wondering just what kind of revelation her ”mother” is going to make. Just then Carla sees Stella when she walks in. She’s happy to see Stella and gives her a brief wave. Stella waves back tentatively as she’s also curious to hear what Maria has to say – perhaps the truth so she wouldn’t have to feel guilty about not telling Carla?
© ARD Grundy UFA
Maria is visibly nervous ‘coz Ansgar is not making any concessional move at all. So she decides to go through with her revelation. But just when she starts to express what she’s going to say, Ansgar, realizing by now that Maria was not joking around at all when she warned him last night, quickly jumps in and informs Carla that he’s heard about Maria giving her the top job at the Lahnstein Southeast Asia Bank in Shanghai and congratulates her. Carla begrudgingly accepts it despite his lack of sincerity. Elisabeth looks visibly suspicious.
© ARD Grundy UFA
When Carla is in the office, Elisabeth expresses her suspicion about the whole thing that happened in the dining room earlier with Maria and Ansgar. Carla brushes it off and is convinced that Maria has made good of her promise to Carla about the job in Shanghai and Ansgar has no choice but to agree with their mother. She’s visibly happy and content and all she’s interested in right now is her plans with Stella and Sophia when they move to Shanghai.
© ARD Grundy UFA
However, Elisabeth just won’t let go of the fact that there’s something fishy going on. She expresses her suspicion about Maria’s almost-revelation and questions what that could’ve been. Could it be that this whole Shanghai job promise is a game concocted by Ansgar in order to set a trap for Carla to walk in? However hard Carla tries to brush it off as unfounded conjecture from Elisabeth, she can’t help but wonders about it now because Elisabeth is right – why would Ansgar so willingly let Carla head the bank in Shanghai since he’s always blocking her from having anything to do with the family business? Surely Ansgar’s up to some evil plan.
© ARD Grundy UFA
Back in the castle, Ansgar is furious with Maria for setting him up to publicly agree with Carla getting the bank job in Shanghai earlier. Now that he’s agreed to it, he demands that Carla leaves quickly and tells Maria to make sure it happens without any further delay now. Ansgar leaves in a huff but Maria is visibly happy with herself that she finally got what she wanted out of Ansgar without even having to reveal her true identity!
© ARD Grundy UFA
Carla gets back from the Holding and gets Stella to be alone in the family room to tell her of her suspicion about Ansgar and Maria. She believes that everything is too easy on the surface when Ansgar agreed with Maria’s decision to let Carla head up the bank in Shanghai. She suspects that the whole thing is Ansgar’s plan to trap her or something.
© ARD Grundy UFA
Stella looks guilty now but she pretends to be surprised of anything fishy going on. But Carla reminds her that she knows her brother very well and doesn’t trust him at all. Stella is about to tell her the truth but before she could do so, Carla holds Stella hands tightly and tells her that the only person she trusts is Stella and whatever it is, she doesn’t care as long as Stella’s with her, she could beat the odds.
© ARD Grundy UFA
She then gives Stella a warm kiss of self-assuredness and confidence that Stella is truly her rock. Stella is speechless now. How the hell could she bring up the truth now??!
© ARD Grundy UFA
Stella confronts Maria in the living room and tells her that Carla is suspicious about Ansgar playing an evil trick on her as far as the Shanghai bank job is concerned. She questions Maria if there’s any truth to it. Maria assures Stella that there’s no trap of any kind from Ansgar at all and she’s already revealed the truth to her. Stella then asks why she can’t just tell Carla the truth so she’d stop suspecting Ansgar having anything evil planned for her. Maria asks Stella why she’d reveal the truth if it would only bring hurt to Carla? In this case, the end justifies the means ‘coz at the end of the day, Stella and Carla could be together, whatever it takes to make it happen. Stella objects ‘coz she hates to keep anything from Carla and she knows that Carla trusts her wholeheartedly. She can’t betray Carla’s trust. Maria advices her that sometimes it is inevitable for people to have to keep some things from their loved ones if only to protect them from harm. Stella is visibly in a dilemma but she agrees to keep the truth to between her and Maria only. (Oh, what a big mistake, Stella!)
© ARD Grundy UFA
Carla goes to Ansgar’s quarters and tries to pscyh him out about any possibility of any evil plan in relation to her taking the bank position in Shanghai. Ansgar maintains his innocence so Carla has no choice but to leave but not before she warns Ansgar that whatever plan or trap he may have against Carla, she’s bound to find out sooner or later.
© ARD Grundy UFA
Ansgar barges into Stella’s office with Maria in tow, demanding loudly when Stella and Carla would leave Düsseldorf as he wants them out without any further delay especially now that he’s agreed to let Carla head the bank in Shanghai. Stella firmly holds her ground and tells him that it’s all going to be up to Carla.
© ARD Grundy UFA
At the same time, Carla is about to make her way to Stella’s office when she hears Maria, Ansgar and Stella talking about her. So she quietly sneaks behind the wall outside the office to eavesdrop. Meanwhile, Maria, trying to calm things down, reassures Ansgar that now that Carla’s position in Shanghai is confirmed with Ansgar’s blessing, however reluctantly, it’s only a matter of time before Carla leaves with Stella. She adds that there’s no cause for any delay since Stella has promised her side of the bargain about not telling Carla the truth. Carla by now is listening closely especially when she sees that Stella’s apparently involved somehow. So when Stella affirms her promise to Maria, Carla in utter disbelief leans her head on the wall, feeling absolutely shocked and betrayed.
© ARD Grundy UFA
Carla can’t believe what she’s just heard out of Stella’s mouth. By now, as far as Carla’s concerned, the verdict is already in. She’s totally bought her own assumption that Stella’s been conspiring with Ansgar and Maria all this time in order to get Carla out of the Holding and Düsseldorf altogether! She’s heard enough already so she immediately barges into Stella’s office, her fiery, accusing glare not leaving Stella’s sight for one minute as she approaches her to confront about this whole ugly conspiracy that she truly believes has been happening. Stella is so shocked to see Carla at that moment that she drops back in her chair, speechless and filled with guilt ‘coz she knows what the whole atmosphere looks to Carla – bad! Carla practically pounces on Stella and immediately accuses her of cahooting with Maria and Ansgar against her all this time. Maria, feeling bad, tries to calm Carla down assuring her that there’s no evil plan against her whatsoever and Stella hasn’t done anything remotely close to what Carla’s accusing her of. Carla, at this point, does not hear any reason or sense anymore. All she cares about is Stella betraying her trust. Knowing that Ansgar’s job is done as far as creating havoc between Carla and Stella, he leaves them to deal with the mess, total satisfaction written all over his face.
© ARD Grundy UFA
Maria tries again to reason with Carla but gets shot down mercilessly by Carla who turns to Stella immediately, totally ignoring Maria. Maria, sensing that she’s basically done enough harm to the couple already, leaves the couple alone and quickly gets out of Stella’s office.
© ARD Grundy UFA
Alone to defend herself from Carla now, Stella knows that she’s in hot water as she rests her head in her palm, suddenly exhausted, not knowing just how to explain the misunderstanding. Carla resumes with her accusing screams and shouts at Stella. Stella tries to explain that Carla’s accusation is baseless, that her decision to go to Shanghai was the right decision at the end of the day.
© ARD Grundy UFA
Carla cuts her off saying that nothing matters anymore ‘coz the person she’s trusted most has turned out to be on Maria and Ansgar’s side after all. Stella argues that even if she told her the truth, Carla wouldn’t have listened anyway since she’s too caught up with fighting about the Holding to see any sense or reason. Her action to keep the truth from Carla was solely for the reason of protecting her, no more. There’s never been any sinister motive from her end at all.
© ARD Grundy UFA
At this point, when Carla’s in this fiery mood, nothing will calm her down anymore especially when she’s made up her mind already about the whole incident, be it true or otherwise.
© ARD Grundy UFA
She goes toward Stella and in the most sarcastic and jabbing manner replies, "Well, I guess I didn't hear you when you were making a firm agreement to a promise with Ansgar and Maria, then."
© ARD Grundy UFA
Stella is stunned by that stinging remark and knowing that defending herself is futile to say the least, asks Carla, ”What now?” Carla stares down at Stella coldy and replies, ”It's Over.” Stella stares at Carla in disbelief….
**Das ist SCHEIßE!!!!! If Elisabeth hadn’t planted that seed of doubt into Carla’s head in the 1st place, Carla wouldn’t have felt suspicious. Then, Stella wouldn’t have needed to keep things from her & most of all, both of them wouldn’t have ended with Carla basically calling their relationship quits!!!!! VERDAMMT!!!! **
