Congratulations ccogz. We tried to make it a good game and probably scared a few Canadians near the end of the regular game, but Canada rallied in Overtime. It couldn't have happened to a more deserving host country. Well done!
Oh gosh, thanks
AF!!! I tell ya, I was literally having multiple heart attacks and when Parise
(you know, we claim him 'coz his dad was a Canadian hero at the '72 showdown against the Soviets!) scored with only 20+ secs 'til full time!! I kid you not - the entire nation was stunned into silence. I was shouting my lungs out, man!! And you know that if there was a shootout, your team had better stats than ours. So I couldn't sit, I couldn't do anything and was screaming at every player on the TV screen!! But I had the "
BELIEVE"
(that's our motto here throughout the Olympics!) mentality in me and I envisioned that it would be Crosby who'd score and the final score would be 3:2 and he'd hit from the corner...... and after 6-7 mins of OT...
VOILA!!!!!!!! You don't know, mate! Our whole nation was rumbling with ecstasy!! Car honks everywhere could be heard even from where we live high up in the building! Downtown Toronto was at a standstill - traffic halted. Everyone ran out of the streets... it was incredible!! We've NEVER had this experience in our entire Canadian history...not even in Calgary and Montreal where we hosted the Olympics!
Wow - as we say now - we
WERE quietly proud Canadians. We
ARE loudly proud Canadians
NOW!!!
