When do you think Lexa will fall in love with Clarke?
“Well…she already kinda likes her a lot, doesn’t she? Like, I don’t know if she loves her. Maybe. Maybe she never does. I don’t know. That’s a good question. I mean how do you know when you’re in love with someone? Honestly, let’s think about this. At what point in your life, like when you’re dating someone, do you just go, “Oh my gosh, I am in love with this person!” And does that happen gradually, or is it like a bolt out of the blue? Is there a way to track that? I don’t know. I think it’s a thing that creeps up on you, you know? You don’t realize it until you’re like with that person and you realize “I don’t want to be without that person. I like being with that person. And I care a lot about them. Maybe more than myself.” Those to me are the things that indicate being in love with someone. Or loving somebody very much.
Will Lexa interact with any other Arkers besides Clarke?
We’ve seen her interact with other Arkers before, right? And she is the commander. So.
“Maybe they need to kiss again to be sure.”
Well, yeah. Although you know, there are many people who love each other and they have very long distance relationships and so they don’t get to kiss very much ever.
Started to answer a question about whether Clarke and Lexa could ever be in a relationship and the question disappeared too fast
Explosiveness between Clarke and Lexa?
Jason described it at Comic-Con as “there will be fireworks.” I think that is an accurate representation. Clearly the events at the end of season 2 have an impact on both of those characters will be something they have to deal with in Season 3.
Does Lexa know about the nomads having tech?
I don’t think she knows much about the nomads. She has responsibilities that probably don’t involve them much.
Will Lexa get new armor
Look it’s a new season, you’ll probably see your favorite characters in new costumes from time to time. I think that’s fair.
In response to the question about civil war and how it will affect trade among the twelve clans
I wouldn’t get so set on what you think you know about this season. You know part of the fun of hiatus is that you know everything is a possibility and that’s great, and the minute you start watching episodes the possibilities shrink and shrink and shrink down to what we are actually doing in story. Now is the great time you get to imagine the world and imagine all of the things and writing fan fiction and fanart. (talking about fanfic and spec for a bit)
You take the info you’ve been given and you extrapolate on it. Guess what, when we make the show? That’s what we do too. And then we create more of the world from that. And sometimes you’re gonna line up with us, and sometimes you’re not.
On Finn:
(Anmerkung hoppe: Vorher: dass sie die schlimmsten Obstacles und Erfahrungen ihren Charakteren ins Gesicht schmeißen."You know, this is what you do in television")
Not all characters can deal with it. Like Finn. He succumbed to the challenges facing him, and had a mental break. And it was tragic.
Is it frustrating Lexa commands so much attention despite being only a guest star?
I wouldn’t say it’s frustrating. I understand some fans get frustrated, but she is a character that was created for this show, just like all of the other characters, just like Indra, or Nyko, or other Arkers, like David Miller! Granted, her stature, her significance, was more than all of those other characters because it was designed that way. You needed somebody to go toe-to-toe with Clarke and challenge her and serve as an adversary and also as an advocate, someone she could work with. So I would say, you know—and I’m not trying to answer this from a ship perspective—this is about the characters that populate our world. And some characters, based on the story we’re telling, get a little more attention than other characters. You know it’s also great that we got an amazing, amazing actress to play that character. And that’s part of the reason that people love that character so much, is because of Alycia, because she is so great. And kinda hard to take your eyes off of her when she’s on screen. You know we are certainly very very happy we were able to get her back for season three and we get to play with her a little more and she’s in our playground. Because that’s sometimes what you think of it as, when you’re writing, your playground or your sandbox.
What would Gustus or Indra’s reaction to Clexa be?
You know, I think whatever they want. Look, they’re adults. Clarke is now 18. For all intents and purposes I don’t even think the “adult” label matters all that much. They’re people that can make up their own minds and make their own decisions. Indra and Gustus may have opinions about it, but they don’t have any control over it.
What are your thoughts about accusations that the show is racist and only for white feminists?
Well I—you know, look, first of all I’m a white chick, so probably anything I say with regard to this would make me a, um, a subject for possible attack. I don’t agree. You know we work very very hard in our writers room to not project singular opinions of the world. We have people of different races, we have men and women on the staff, we have very passionate discussions about things. There are some certain things we do not want to see in our show. We do not think rape is a subject or topic—not the topic itself, but it’s not something we want in our world. We don’t want to see that. We don’t want to write it. It’s so overdone in television and while I think rape is a serious, serious issue in our actual world, we are projecting that these people have survived because of their strength, their strengths as people. And not strengths as women or strengths as men. That they overcome much much more important things. They’re overcoming obstacles to their lives, and you know the benefit we have in creating this world and that Jason has in creating this world is that he can play in whatever version of the world he wants to play in. And we’ve decided that this is a world where we are not going to play with any type of sexual dominance or assault. Because it’s just not something we want to talk about. It’s not in our world. We don’t want to victimize any of our women in that way. If they’re going to fight someone, if they’re going to fight a dude, it’s because they’re fighting over the better cause, or they’re fighting to save their cause, and that kind of thing. And, uh, so that’s kind of our opinion on it. And I don’t think that’s an issues that is a white issue or a female issue, it’s a human issue. These are the things—you know, talk about domestic abuse. We don’t talk about it a lot but there are plenty of men in this country that are abused by their wives. I’m not trying to say that it’s equal, it’s not equal, not at all equal, but it’s something that does happen in our world. We just don’t want to see that in our world of The 100. We don’t want to see that kind of domestic abuse. Those are things that don’t exist when they’re fighting for their lives. This is a survival show. It is a show about how you would react to these kinds of circumstances in a post-apocalyptic world.
And I’ve probably said a few things that will get me in trouble, and I apologize profusely if I have said anything out of my racial/gender privilege. I really am. I’m not saying that as a sarcastic thing. I just, you know, I recognize that I have a point of view about this world that is different than other people’s point of view, and everyone’s POV is valid because it’s where you come from and I don’t consider my point of view more valid than anybody else’s. That’s where I’m at. I’m just trying to write a TV show. Not trying to make a political statement. I’m sorry that went on way too long.
Will we meet the grounder clans more in depth?
Actually, I don’t know, we’re still in writing so we might meet more in later episodes.
How many deaths have already been filmed in season 3?
Several.
*Note: at this point, I had the periscope paused for a few minutes and the questions stopped popping up, so I’m just going off of her answers and my memory of the live broadcast to make guesses about the questions from here out*
(something about) The sex scenes that are too hot for the CW?
*laughs* oh man I can’t answer either one of those. I also don’t know that your premise for the stuff that Jason referenced recently is accurate.
Dailies?
The stuff that Jason is teasing (with the daily dailies) is accurate, but it is teasing and can definitely be misconstrued
Would we ever put out fake spoilers?
We would never try to. We’re certainly not going to tell people that their theories or speculation is wrong, because the more you tell people they are wrong, the closer they get to being right. I know there are a lot of theories floating around out there that are based on possible leaks and people are quite sure of, and, you know, you might be right, but you might also be wrong
Polis?
I’m sorry, I can’t say anything about Polis. I know that there is stuff floating out in the interwebs, if you read any of that, there are grains of truth but most of it is speculation and theory. We want to keep all of that stuff under wraps.
(no idea what the question was here)
I love reading the speculation that fans talk about. Think about when you buy someone a gift, and you’re so happy, you know this gift is perfect for this person, and you gotta wait until their birthday or Christmas day to open it. And it’s so hard to not tell them what you got them! That’s us. We cannot wait for you to open your presents! But you can’t open them yet because they’re not done! And that’s the best way to experience this show! And look, I get it, it’s cool that you want to know things and spoilers, but we try very very hard to do what we can to keep it a surprise. Surprises are fun.
On Wanheda Clarke (Foto):
It’s really hard because when you take regular photographs of things, it doesn’t look right. There’s a reason makeup looks the way it does when you’re shooting it for film versus when you see it in normal lighting. The type of lighting that you’re putting on somebody in a TV film shoot is very different. It’s very bright, and it can wash you out. So you have to apply more of it so people look darker because there’s a lot of makeup on there. I know at times people have said, “Oh, this person looks like they’re being browned up” or whatever, and I guarantee you we’re not trying to make somebody look like something they aren’t, we’re just trying to make it look good so it’ll look good on camera. And sometimes it’s maybe a little too much or not enough or the color correction wasn’t right. We do make mistakes. We’re sorry, we try to be perfect but we’re not.
