Alycia hat in der letzten Folge wieder einmal geglänzt! Langsam macht sie sich auch hier einen Namen!
'FEAR THE WALKING DEAD' HAS ALWAYS BEEN A FAMILIAL DRAMA, AGAINST A BACKDROP OF WALKERS—AND THIS EPISODE TURNS IT UP A NOTCH AS RELATIONSHIPS EVERYWHERE FRAY AND CRUMBLE.
[...] Alycia Debnam-Carey is this week's MVP by a clear mile. Her final scene with Madison was all sorts of heartbreaking. [...]
Madison and Alicia finally have it out—and it’s a spectacular acting showcase from Alycia Debnam-Carey.
By far, this was the most spectacular fallout of the episode. It had been a long time coming—from the season one pilot. It’s blatantly clear that Madison favours Nick. She’ll move heaven and earth fir him, and that kind of motherly devotion is truly admirable.
But sometimes it’s as if Madison forgets she’s got a daughter, too. This season, Alicia’s independence and leadership skills have blossomed (as have her knife tricks). She’s resourceful, intelligent and wily. Yet she is still missing her mother’s love. It has always been simmering under the surface, oblivious to a Nick-obsessed Madison, and actually, it’s very, very frustrating.
Her conversation with Strand is quietly heart-breaking, as she acknowledges that Madison had her “hands full” whilst she grew up—presumably with Nick. Yet as seen in season one the brother-sibling relationship remains strong. It’s not Nick’s fault Madison is so obsessed with mollycoddling him However, in ‘Pillar of Salt’, Alicia finally cracks—and it’s devastating.
You don’t understand. Your child is always your child. He’s always– -Madison
I’m your child. [Madison pulls away]. I don’t understand. He chose what’s out there over us. -Alicia
Maybe he changed his mind. -Madison
I never changed my mind. I’m here…Why isn’t that enough? -Alicia
It’s the small voice in which Debnam-Carey delivers those lines that’s ingenious. You can hear the vulnerability in her words, as if she’s not sure she wants to admit to this fear. In that moment, she isn’t a zombie-killing strategist. She almost comes full-circle to the season two premiere: she’s lonely, and she just wants her mother to love her as she loves Nick. What’s even worse is the stunned silence Madison offers in return. It’s enough. Alicia Clark’s heart breaks—and so do ours. [...]
