cool. *if* TPTB had never planned marbecca, i would have not minded rebcardo as long term... i don't watch non-marbecca scenes so i don't know the whole story behind ricardo, but appearance-wise i think they go quite well.

I dunno. I think he's kinda in a very, very different place in life than she is (essentially acting as father two highschool kids). I have a hard time picturing it working as more than a nice maybe slightly longer affair/buddies with benefits.

Actually he's infertile. But he sort of inherited his wife's son (whom he has raised from birth on) during their divorce as well as the son's girlfriend-slash-cousin. It's complicated. Basically Ricardo's wife ran off with her brother and both her kid and the brother's kid got left behind (and fell in love). So yeah, Ricardo has some issues. He's also become a bit of a ho since his wife left him (understandable).

<- I really like how Marlene sits here devoid of all makeup. I just hope that it's unsubtle symbolism. Like a face-off between the two. Or rather masks off and time for honesty.

We totally should make a Fashion Sins Thread. Though I actually dislike the other plastic dress even wore (the one she wore when the talked to Marlene in Tristan's suite after Trima broke up. The one with the big horizontal stripe over the chest.

I think I am in favor of Rebecca's plastic tablecloth/shower curtain dresses. Because it appears it is her only defense from the bullshit she has to put up with every single day! Poor girl gets dumped on mercilessly! If I have to watch another month's worth of her and her puppy dog eyes crying hopelessly for Marlene I may not survive!

that sounds so nutty hehehe. maybe i should start watching full eps on mediathek to really appreciate the 'verboten'-ness of VL..

WAIT -- A catholic priest who was STRAIGHT? Well ... considering the news of all the evil done by priests lately -- this character sounds positively tame. What's a little bit of incest -- at least no children were sexually abused in the process, right?

That's it! I'm going to have to limit myself to watching MarBecca. I can't handle much more than the sweet bi girl being constantly heartbroken by her brother's "straight" fiance who is secretly, madly, passionately, totally in love with her. The rest of VL will have to go on without me.

Well it is a bit more complex than that ;) Jan and Julia were seperated at birth by their evil mother (that woman with the black pageboy cut aka Ricardo's mother in law aka Rebecca's boss). They met as adults and well in love without realizing that they were siblings. They only found out when Julia developed leukemia (even even there her mother waited till the last minute to tell the truth and instead focused on other ways to get rid of Jan, while Jan and Julia of course were clueless why Julia's mom was so terrible to them). The truth came out, Jan saved Julia with a bone marrow transplant. The feelings didn't go away, but they couldn't be together. The story ended with Jan believing that Julia had drowned before his eyes.

Then 13 years later they recast the actors (Julia now married with a grown up son, Jan now a priest) to finally give the fans a happy ending for Jan&Julia.

==> it's funny because structurally Marbecca actually have a lot in common with Jan and Julia 2.0.

You had Jan (=Rebecca) who really wanted them to defy society and be together and who fought for their love and Julia (=Marlene) who lied obsessively about everything having to do with Jan and clung to Ricardo (=Tristan) and who really tortured herself with all the lies and totally went back and forth with wanting to send Jan away and trying to get close to him.

You also had this going back and forth between "No, let's try to just be normal siblings to each other" (=Marbecca "let's try the platonic friends thing again") which just like with Marbecca it always backfired pretty much instantly. Oh and you had Ricardo trying to throw Jan off a cliff kinda like Tristan trying to stab Rebecca ;) Jan: You might be willing to kill for her, but I'm willing to die for her.

With Julia it went pretty far, she almost drowned herself in a pool (borderline suicide) and when her son Timo saw that he told her to just go and be with Jan because she was kiling herself trying to stay away from him.

Let's hope it doesn't go quite as far with Marlene ;)

the actors who play Jan and Julia are gorgeous... but gaaah incest still. I just can't with that. but hey whatever, it's a soap. they're happy yadda yadda. but that's a horrible thing to do to their child. isn't Timo Jan's kid tho? or something like that. I think I read it on wiki. lol I've only ever really watched the gay storylines of this show but sometimes I get curious about the other characters too....

on the other hand the new promo pics! ahhh, I can't wait for spoilers for the 26th. when I read that Marlene is supressing her feelings, I think that really got my hopes up. to the last minute she still has doubts! so I think this might be it! what we've all been waiting for! TEAM MARBECCA!

No, Timo isn't Jan's kid. The Jan and Julia of the past never actually did it, they just came close a couple of times. Actually the 2.0 version of Jan and Julia never did it either it is just assumed that they are probably doing it now off screen. Timo is the son of Tim the guy Julia was married to when was presumed dead. Tim was later murdered by Tanja. Leonie is the daughter of Jan and Kerstin.
