Interesting comments I've read here about CH on "TV Total." Sorry, I have to comment in English 'coz my German sucks! Personally, I found that host to be an idiot. Fancy not even knowing who CH plays on VL! Talkshow hosts should always prepare themselves before they interview their guests. that's talkshow hosting 101. But apparently not for this guy. Shows that he didn't care enough, I guess. OR, not knowing this guy's show in general (I've only watched this one episode), perhaps that's how his style is...anyway..
Now, since CH mentioned playing a lesbian without being asked, of 'coz that (I'm sure) led to the host blurting out that remark, probably thinking it was very funny. But I don't think it was done out of malice or to offend anyone, though. CH and that girl who played "Sarah" (what's her name??) were laughing profusely, probably a combination of embarassment or amusement or shock... I think they probably didn't know how to react, so laughter is almost always the best bet or it can be an involuntary reaction. It happens to many of us, I'm sure. Also, sometimes, depending on the host's style, guests sometimes have to be in that same level, I guess, in order to avoid major discomfort during the interview or something.. But it was interesting that Miriam Lahnstein (Tanja) didn't find it amusing at all. She only smiled politely... And I didn't think she'd be so shy..Miriam, I mean. She's so different from Tanja! Anyway, that whole thing with CH, Raab - I saw it as bad humor....
So, I don't think CH said anything that was offensive... perhaps I missed something? I mean, I've heard a lot of straight actresses playing gay to be clear about their heterosexuality on interviews (the usual tagline, "I play a lesbian but I'm straight."). Some have to repeat it if they're always asked. You think that's inapproriate? I mean, there are obsessive fans out there who can't differentiate reality from fantasy. The fact that CH has managed to portrayed a lesbian ever so convincingly realistic and so good at it, too, some people naturally think that CH's gay just because her character is, you know what I mean? I've heard Jennifer Beals (from "TLW") repeating herself about not being gay a few times already 'coz she also knows that sometimes it's good to set the record straight (no pun intended!). I remember reading an article about this actress from "Bad Girls" (UK) - Simone Lahbib - who was actually stalked and got obsessive calls from a woman, since her character on "Bad Girls" was gay. Scary! Mandana Jones - the other woman on "Bad Girls" - also had to really emphasize that she was straight on radio, TV, and magazines! Marian Aguilera (from "Los Hombres") did the same thing, too, I think. She even went further than that - commenting (criticizing) that some people can't seem to differentiate fiction from reality, which is unfortunate, 'coz then, they expect her to behave in a certain way, and if she's not, then they're disappointed, etc... she has a point there...
So, did CH do something outside of that whole "I play gay but I'm straight" routine to be truly offensive? If she did, I doubt that she did it on purpose. Anyone who's played a gay character to this perfection like CH on VL, with absolutely no hesitation or discomfort, just instinctively natural, wouldn't think of offending the community, I don't think. In fact, that person would be a true supporter of the community. That's just my opinion. I appreciate that. There are still a lot of actors out there who still would not accept a gay role due to fear of being type-cast, or considered gay or whatever.. So, for CH, I'd say, kudos to her for taking the part on VL and making it her own, so believable, and I'll always cherish that long after she leaves the show...
