Before I proceed, I wanna apologize for posting in English 'coz while I can understand some German, my written skill is the pits! So, instead of embarrassing myself with my limited written German, I'm gonna post in my mother tongue so here goes (entschuldigung!)...
OK, while I understand that some people are a bit offended by what CH said on "TV Total," and think that it was an inappropriate thing for her to say but...sometimes, we have to laugh at ourselves, and not take ourselves too seriously. I don't think CH did it on purpose. Ok, it was bad humour but look at who the host was? Not serious. I mean, have you seen other shows like case-in-point, "The Saturday Night Live" (USA)?
If you ask me, as long as we're still considered (we, I mean, the gay community) a minority group, it's a good thing to have exposure. Albeit, sometimes negative exposure could be bad but when it's done as a tongue-n-cheek, what's the big deal? If you saw CH on "Riverboat" a more serious talk show, she was fab in it. In fact, she was defending us, I think. She was explaining in a way that it's normal/fine to be gay. SO what? When she was asked about Carla's false wedding on VL, immediately CH identify it to be the wedding with Bernd. But then she continued to add that Carla had another wedding, and CH put it very clearly when she said, "and it was the right one with Susanne." Now, don't know about you, but I got the impression that the host didn't mean the wedding w/ Bernd when he said "false wedding". He meant the Carla/Susanne one 'coz as soon as CH said "the right wedding" to mean SuCa's, the host jumped in and said, "but that's a "lesbian" wedding.." To me, that meant he initially believed SuCa's wedding was the "false" one. CH was visibly not very pleased but echoed that yes, the SuCa wedding was a "lesbian" wedding. The fact that she had to add that term did not please her one bit. That to me, CH believes in the rights of the gay community to have the same kind of wedding as straight people have. And she's a total supporter of our community. Otherwise, she'd have a big problem taking on the Carla role, that's for sure. And to add, she actually managed to portray Carla in such realism, it's unbelievable that she's not gay in real life. We need as many straight people to portray us in a positive light, and CH is one of them.
Now, if she had a problem, I doubt very much she'd be able to portray the role so convincingly. And for the rest of the interview, I could see that CH wasn't very comfortable, even with the other guests 'coz they were giving her this "odd" look or something, I don't know. I was uncomfortable for CH when I watched it. So, we know, at least I believe, CH, through her role as Carla, supports and bears the torch for our community without any kind of prejudice. Just like any minority group, we need the mainstream's support to protect our rights and make our existence as a norm, not "special". Just like women and ethnic groups.
I see CH's appearance and remarks on "TV Total" as what celebs do when they're on the not-so-serious talk shows. That reminds me of Katy Perry's songs, "I Kissed A Girl", which created such a hoopla in the lesbian community, but not so much hoopla in the gay community with her another so-called controversial song, "You're So Gay." What does that say about our community? For me, I wasn't offended when I heard both songs. I actually really like 'em 'coz they both have fabulous rhythm! They're all done in a tongue-in-cheek manner. Katy Perry certainly can't be labeled as a homophobe or has a prob with homosexuality. Far from it. She's surrounded by gay friends & now she's a "gay icon" among the gay community (not lesbians...). If anything, she's successfully created this environment of debate about the issue - which is a good thing, at the end of the day, to have a healthy discussion. I don't know, that's how I see it. If we fixate on every word that any celeb says, we're bound to be disappointed at some point. But if we take everything in stride and enjoy every bit of support we can get from the straight community, we'd find ourselves having more fun and celebrate our group being viewed more and more like a norm and inclusive in the mainstream society, instead of still being a "special interest" group - which, sad to say, is still rampantly obvious in developed countries like the US! We're luckier in Europe and Canada than many of our friends living elsewhere.
So, all in all, I, for one, am grateful and appreciative of CH for taking on this role on VL as the so-called "gay one" for the past 6 years and running with it with such effective realism, normality and support without ever faltering in her performance.
Don't shoot me if you find that my comment is a bit "out there." Maybe even barking at the wrong tree.
It's just my very humble opinion as a 100% lesbian myself...
